2022 - Daymaker

FEATURED ATHELETE: DOMINIC DAVILA

For our 2022 film, Dominic Davila and fellow adaptive backcountry rider Pete McAfee find themselves at Weigele’s heli-skiing, with their own helicopter bringing them to steep, deep runs that will change how you think about adaptive skiing and snowboarding.

What makes for the ultimate day on the mountain?

One thing that makes for the ultimate day in the mountains is deep powder and good friends to make memories with!

FEATURED ATHLETE: JOHN FALKINER

A key player in the cast of colorful characters who defined the 1970s concept of “extreme skiing” in the Alps, John Falkiner has become one of Europe’s most sought-after mountain guides. But his favorite mountain playground isn’t even in the Alps—it’s in Greece. In our 2022 film, Michelle Parker and McKenna Peterson join Falkiner to explore the Olympus Range, where a small community of dedicated backcountry skiers has taken root in the last decade. In the shadow of the ancient gods, Parker and Peterson receive perspective and insights from a revered elder of the sport, while helping the locals tackle some of the biggest lines in southeastern Europe.

FEATURED ATHLETE: TYLER BLOCKER

Last winter, we asked Warren Miller fans to nominate their favorite skier or snowboarder to be featured in this year’s film. We received hundreds of convincing responses and could have gone with anyone from a 7-year-old kid to an 86-year-old man. So who did we choose? Tyler Blocker from Snowbasin, Utah, and when Jonny Moseley and Marcus Caston intercept him on their way to the lift one spring morning, he never saw it coming. WME skiers live the dream; watch what happens when that dream comes true in real-time.

Daymaker - 2022

A killer storm cycle in the Monashees. Adaptive backcountry riding like you’ve never seen before. The ultimate grass skiing run. Alaska (twice). Come along for the biggest days with the 73rd annual Warren Miller film, Daymaker. Then get ready for your own. Because there’s no better day than one out on the hill.

Join Crazy Karl Fostvedt, Michelle Parker, Katie Burrell, Hana Beaman, Daron Rahlves, Ryland Bell, Cam Fitzpatrick, Connery Lundin, and more out on the hill and you can’t really have a bad day.

We hit Snowmass for the biggest party of the winter, surprise a Warren Miller superfan at the base of Snowbasin, and take him skiing with Jonny Moseley and Marcus Caston. We follow one of Europe’s most legendary mountain guides, rewrite the rules of adaptive backcountry riding, and try to keep up with some of the most exciting young skiers and snowboarders on the planet.

In the world today, the ground shifts constantly beneath our feet, and bearings are hard to come by. Warren Miller’s Daymaker will take you on a journey to peaks that replace the mountains in your mind with ones that free your mind.

FEATURED ATHLETE: PETE MCAFEE

I’m Pete McAfee, my right leg was amputated as a young child, making it pretty easy to adapt.  I was born and raised in west Texas to a hard working, middle class family.  I’m the oldest of three brothers and came from humble beginnings.  I spent most of my time playing in the dirt and fighting; it was a pretty awesome childhood!  I learned the value of hard work early in life.  By 7th grade I had a built up a good size clientele and had a steady job mowing lawns.  I started snow skiing at 27 years old after moving to Oregon, but spent the majority of my time playing in the surf.  Somewhere around 33 years old my focus shifted from sea to summit, and I became totally obsessed with ski mountaineering. I guess it’s never too late to learn a new skill.

When I’m not on an expedition, you’ll find me adventuring with my family, working as an x-ray tech or volunteering my time teaching adaptive skiers on Mt Ashland!   I am incredibly blessed to have an amazing, beautiful, incredibly supportive wife and two awesome daughters!  They believe in me more than I believe in myself, and I’m a pretty confident dude.

Name a person who inspires you to be a better skier?

My kids! No matter what the conditions are, their stoke for skiing is next level and they are on a rocket ship of progression!

What would you do if you won the lottery?

Donate to adaptive outdoor programs and ski a lot!

What makes for the ultimate day on the mountain?

A gnarly storm day! You don’t always remember the blue bird days, but you always remember the days filled with adversity. Those are the most meaningful to me.

What makes for an ultimate day on the mountain?

Friends to shred with!

Name a person who inspires you to be a better skier?

Marcus Caston. He is the best. But also many many other skiers and people inspire me for different reasons… their personalities, style, and the message and qualities they embody: Glen Plake, Jimmi Ryan, Angel Collinson, Wendy Fisher, and many other athletes I am surrounded by in the winter as well as athletes that I look up to that I haven’t ever met!

Fictitious character you most identify with from a book, movie, etc. and why?

Peter Pan. I relate to Peter in many ways. I identify with him because I love his creative, adventurous, curious, and daring soul. I like that he’s a confident leader and has a pack of friends, The Lost Boys - they adventure and live in a magical world together. I think some people might think of Peter as careless, selfish or boastful, which he is in some ways, but I think when you begin to understand him more… deep down he has his own inner battles he is working through and he is trying to figure it out the best he knows how… just like the rest of us. Deep down I think he feels love and warmth and maintains his youthful energy that he spreads with his vivid imagination and passion to the people he is around.

What is your vision for the future of skiing?

Inclusive and creative. Open, loving, sharing.

Favorite classic ski film and why?

I love all ski films- it’s hard to pick a favorite!
