About the Athlete:

Michelle Parker calls Squaw Valley her home mountain and currently resides in Lake Tahoe. Since she was 15, she has competed in major events including the X-games, U.S. Freeskiing Open and the Red Bull Cold Rush and she began taking podiums in slopestyle as early as 2006. Michelle has filmed with Matchstick Productions for around 10 years, was recently featured in the “Fire on the Mountain” film recently dropped by TGR. She has also been featured in two Warren Miller films, including a segment in Greenland with Mark Abma and Ted Ligety and then at Squaw with JT Holmes and Timy Dutton. This year, she won “Best Female Performance” at the Powder Awards and has been working hard on her own Red Bull TV film project titled “Originate”, which has two seasons.

No more “S” Word:

  • Once talking about skiing is off the table, Michelle talks to Amie about her various hobbies including cooking, climbing, mountain biking, photography and playing music. She’s so into music in fact, that she attended a singing camp with fellow female skier, Angel Collinson.
  • From there, Michelle talks about how some of her injuries have been opportunities for her to learn new things like playing instruments or renovating her house and the two discuss their progression in mountain biking and ways to improve over time.
  • Then, Michelle talks about how athletes Mia Hamm and Lynn Hill have inspired her for a long time and then Amie asks Michelle the question sponsored by Protect Our Winters and she speaks to how she’s able to advocate for causes she cares about and how POW’s mission to get people involved in their local government has impacted her life personally.
  • After that, Michelle tells Amie what she’d want her superpower to be, her fear of spiders and her love of snakes.
  • Then, Michelle talks about the highs of watching her partner launch his own business, traveling to Peru to climb and heading to the desert to be support for the women’s bike event, “Formation.” And she discusses the low of constantly needing to balance life and work and how hard that can be.
  • Michelle wraps up the episode by elaborating on her trip to Peru with close friend and pro climber Emily Harrington, which included climbing Michelle’s first big wall.
