Although they missed the California Gold Rush of 1848, it seems Road Crew 1 is still striking gold everywhere they go here in the “El Dorado State.”
- A Day Off On The Coast
Lane and Matt take a day off from the toils of the road to enjoy the Pacific coastline.
- Beautiful Pacific Coastline
Truly some of the most spectacular sites in the US is the California coastline, as Road Crew 1 experienced in their travels.
- Scenic Highway 1
Highway 1 hugs the California coast, providing access to windswept cypress trees, rugged cliffs and canyons, beautiful lighthouses, and the crashing surf of the Pacific Ocean, a site worth all the hard work it took for Road Crew 1 to get here.
- Pure Ecstasy
The crew were surprised and delighted to be joined by four members of Pure Ecstacy welcoming us to Motown Mondays at Broadway Grill in Burlingame, CA. With their wireless mics they serenaded for over an hour railing off classic Motown and Soul hits from the Temptations-My Girl to the Commodores-Brick House.
- Take The Stage
Doug Stoup and Zach Crist joined Lane on stage to get the crowd on their feet throwing high fives and chest bumps throughout the night.
- Sharing Ski Stories
Doug Stoup and Reggie Crist got to share some stories about their different segments of the film including Antarctica, Svalbard, Norway and Southern Utah.
- The Golden Gate
Did you know that California is the most geographically diverse state in the nation? It contains the highest (Mount Whitney) and the lowest (Death Valley) points in the contiguous US. Oh, and there are a few ski mountains to go along with the beaches, enough ski mountains to fill up show after show in the San Francisco area with skiers counting down the days until winter.
- Trampoline Dreams
After showing Wintervention at the Palace of Fine Arts, we walked to a historic airplane hanger with a feeling of childhood excitement; you know the feeling that you get when you know you are going to have over 70 trampolines at your disposal. I jumped until I could not any longer. This place has a full on basketball court, dodge ball court, and they host all sorts of aerial and fitness training. Let’s just say that trampolining is the new yoga ladies and gentlemen.
- The Crest Theatre in Sacramento
We finished up in San Fran and headed north through wine country to the Crest Theatre in Sacramento.
After a busy first week in the bay area, Lane Johnson (Crew 1 MC) and Matt Feicht (Crew 1 Projectionist) decided to spend their day off on the coast. They traveled south to the classic beach town of Santa Cruz, back north via scenic Hwy 1, to the Palace of Fine Arts, then north again, through wine country, to Santa Rosa and Sacramento. Here are a few photos from their journey.
