Lynsey Dyer and Andy Mahre Experience Montana
Lynsey Dyer and Andy Mahre traveled from WY and WA to MT for the Missoula premiere of ". . . Like There's No Tomorrow". They decided to stay for a weekend of delicious food, cold beer, local antics… oh, and great skiing.
- Pro freestyle/big mountain skiers Andy Mahre and Lynsey Dyer drove over 6 hours each to Missoula, MT - Lynsey from Jackson Hole and Andy from Yakima, WA. After a long drive to Missoula, there's nothing like cold beer at the local hangout, Charlie's Bar.
- "I was a one-woman driving dance party for the first 4 hours straight. Then I was just ready to be here." Lynsey knows a bit about Montana living after studying Graphic Design at MSU in Bozeman. She also knows a bit about being a powder hound.
- With the guidance from a few locals, we made our way to another local dive bar. Red's Bar was the perfect place for a Missoula nightcap.
- From our first step into the lodge at Montana Snowbowl, the vibe was comfortable and inviting. "Skiing Snowbowl was my favorite part of the weekend," Andy reminisced. "A local guy shared his booze stash that he had hidden in the trees. That was awesome."
- Local flare is ubiquitous in Missoula, from the "world-famous" bloody marys at Montana Snowbowl to the Flathead Cherry pizza at Biga Pizza. These cherries are indigenous to Montana and only grow around Flathead Lake, just north of Missoula.
- I'm sure you've seen the Warren MIller film experience, but only in Missoula will you see the Lil Smokies bluegrass band warming up the crowd before the show starts. Another local spin on an old classic.
- This young shredder hung around until almost everyone had left the theater, looking for the primo swag. It just so happened that Lynsey had her eye on the same swag. A challenge was issued and our young friend left victorious.
- The next morning we hit the road for Winter Carnival and the Black Star Beer Barter in Whitefish. The drive up Hwy 93 from Missoula to Whitefish has views of Glacier National Park that rival the Himalayas. Here the Mission Mountains display their glory.
- The theme for this year's Whitefish Winter Carnival was "Fiesta Pescado Blanco". As you can see, the locals take each year's theme very seriously. An array of smells, sights and sounds filled the atmosphere as the parade danced through town.
- When we heard about the Black Star Beer Barter, we weren't sure what to expect. It didn't take long to learn that people in Whitefish will do just about anything for a year's supply of free beer. It was no contest after Troy Nooroa lit up the stage.
- Feeling feisty after Wasabi Sushi owner Paula Greenstein served countless sushi rolls and sake shots, Lynsey was, again, issuing arm wrestling challenges. Pretty sure she lost this one too.
- What better way to cure a sake hangover than to soak up the sun on top of a Whitefish Mountain cloud inversion? We were all struggling a bit, waking up after the Winter Carnival madness to gloomy cloudy skies, but not for long.
- The peaks of Glacier National Park rose up out of the clouds like volcanoes out of the ocean. Andy ripped the groomers like there was no tomorrow and gave the locals a show by catching huge air every chance he got.
- Around noon, everyone was invited to make a few turns with Lynsy and Andy. These future-pro skiers were so stoked to share a chair with Lynsey. By the time they reached the top of the lift, she had secured the top spot as their favorite skier.
- These kids wore Lynsey and Andy out. This couch was calling their name after a long weekend of Montana merriment. It was an amazing weekend that none of us will soon forget.
