NASTAR, the largest public grassroots ski race program in the world, will debut the inaugural Nature Valley NASTAR Eastern Championships February 1-3 at Okemo Mountain, VT. This prestigious race series will provide recreational racers an opportunity to compete against their peers in a modified GS race, as well as with their family and friends in a team competition.

In addition to the NASTAR races, the Eastern Championships will feature race clinics with NASTAR’s National Pacesetter AJ Kitt, an interactive sponsor village, live music, a free screening of Warren Miller’s Flow State, autograph sessions with World Cup racers, great prizes and more.

“We are excited to bring the NASTAR Eastern Championships to Okemo in January,” said Johnny Alamo, Director of Strategic Partnerships at NASTAR. “This event serves as a qualifying platform for the National Championships, with event festivities mirroring the experience offered out west. The Eastern Championships allows racers to complete on an elite level and race head-to-head against their top regional competition.”

Participants will compete within their age and ability group on Saturday, and the top three racers in each division will automatically qualify for the Nature Valley NASTAR National Championships to be held at Aspen/Snowmass, CO March 20-24. Additionally, each first-place racer will be invited to compete in the Race of Champions on Sunday. The Race of Champions is handicapped, giving racers of all ages an opportunity to win the Overall NASTAR Eastern Championship title based on their discounted time. The male and female racers that post the fastest raw times and overall times during the Race of Champions will be awarded complimentary registration and lift tickets for the National Championships at Aspen/Snowmass.

Participants will have a chance to compete in teams of 3 or more on Sunday afternoon during the event’s Team Races. Team members will score points based on the handicap they earn in their age and gender groups. NASTAR Team Points are designed to level the playing field so that young and old racers have an equal opportunity to contribute to their teams' success.
